Everyday Gas Safety Tips

Natural gas is an indispensable part of our daily lives. Stay proactive:

Know Your Gas Meter: Familiarize yourself with its location and operation, ensuring you can swiftly shut it off when necessary.
Detecting a Gas Leak: Changes in lawn color to shades of brown or rust can signal a leak. In such cases, prioritize calling 911, followed by your gas service provider.
Visible Threats: If you spot flames or sparks, evacuate the premises without delay, keep a safe distance, and contact emergency services.
Unusual Odors: A rotten smell, even without visible threats, demands caution. Ensure all stove burners are off, utilize flashlights in low light, and avoid using electrical switches to prevent potential sparks.
Ventilate Immediately: Open all available doors and windows to dissipate the gas.
Gas Meter Operations: Should you turn off your gas meter, do not attempt to reactivate it yourself. Always rely on your gas service provider.

As expected, I failed an inspection required by City of San Mateo's lateral sewer line ordinance (enacted in 2020).  

I contacted a very large plumbing outfit suggested by my realtor, but they gave me a very large estimate.  Later that night, someone recommended Joe at Total Underground Construction (funnily enough it was a Lyft driver who heard my sob story and had a similar experience). 

Joe assessed the situation and gave me a lower quote with a few contingencies for stuff he couldn't see until excavating. To my surprise, the contingent items weren't necessary and the quote held. 

Work was performed impeccably and quickly. Permits and all phases were perfectly sequenced, and we passed inspection. Now I can sell the house.  

Joe is very experienced and a good guy - total pro.  If you're ever in this situation, don't stress - just contact this company.

He was friendly and professional.  I kept his number just in case I would need help in the future. That day came this week!  My landlords handyman had tried to replace my corroded PVC that was leaking. It caused a host of problems with the water pressure in the house.  I called Joe and he was at my house within 20 minutes!  He was able to fix the problem and explain what was going on with great knowledge.  He even followed up the next day to confirm things were back to normal.  Highly recommend!!

I requested a quote for some plumbing that needed to be fixed and Joe came out, addressed the problems, and helped us fix leaks in the plumbing. I couldn't recommend him enough to anyone who needs underground construction or plumbing work on their home.
